It features three SXRD micro-display panels that provide Full 1080p resolution. 200W Ultra-High-Pressure Lamp
The VPL-VW70 works with 200 wattage lamp. With this high wattage, the VPL-VW70 projects at a high brightness of 800lm. The high-wattage Ultra- High-Pressure lamp reproduces color accurately, beautifully, and naturally bottomless white, spectacular reds etc.
Fully Digital Signal Processing by BRAVIA Engine
Incorporated BRAVIA Engine2 in the VPL-VW70 is a fully digital integrated picture enhancement engine, optimally engineered by Sony for front projectors. This is the centerpiece to BRAVIA picture quality. The BRAVIA Engine2 relies on a collection of Sony-unique algorithms such as noise reduction, and color enhancement to produce sharp, vibrant, lifelike images.
x.v.Color for an unprecedented range of rich colors
The VPL-VW70 can display colors beyond the sRGB color space, a new international standard called xvYCC was developed to capture a wider range of colors that exist in the real world. It is approximately 1.8 times wider than the color space defined by the sRGB. xvYCC compatible products, when used in combination with each other, can reproduce colors found in nature more faithfully than ever before.
Deep color for finer color shades
The richness of color gradation is determined by how many bits of information the source contains. Conventional broadcast and video signals were created and transmitted at 8 bits. The VPL-VW70 that support Deep Color(4:2:2) is capable of receiving Deep Color signals from devices such as PS3, allowing for a smoother, finer reproduction of shades and tones.
ARC-F (All Range Crisp Focus) Lens
The VPL-VW70 is equipped with an ARC-F (All Range Crisp Focus) Lens. This lens has extremely high resolution and sharp focus, specially engineered to optimize the high performance of the Full HD SXRD panel. Even when using corner of lens by adjustable lens shift function, the lens can project image with exact resolution, as its name suggests.
1.6 times Zoom Lens
The VPL-VW70 is equipped with a short focal-length lens with 1.6 times zoom. With this short focal lens, users can fill an entire 80-inch screen at a focal length as short as 2.45m. Users can project large-sized images even onto limited space. Better still, the 1.6 times zoom gives the VPL-VW70 much wider flexibility for installation. moreover, thanks to Motorized zoom/focus function, it is possible to set accurate adjusting of zoom/focus easily.
Adjustable Lens Shift
The VPL-VW70 has an adjustable "Lens Shift" function. Picture position (both horizontal and vertical) can be easily adjusted with the motorized adjustable "Lens shift" function, which expands the projector's placement and installation options without distorting image quality.
Automatic motorized lens protector
Lens cover of the VPL-VW70 opens automatically when the projector powers on, then closes up again when it's turned off. So the built-in motorized lens cover will help to keep dust off of the lens without forcing users to remember to replace the lens cap or flip up the front cover.
Superb Contrast Ratio with Advanced Iris 2
The VPL-VW70 is equipped with "Advanced Iris 2". The Advanced Iris is an automatic "Iris" shutter, a technology that automatically detects and adjusts the picture brightness and contrast to reproduce the brightness of the input signal. This function realizes the VW70’s high contrast of up to 60,000:1.
Superb Low Fan Noise “20dB”
The VPL-VW70 runs very quietly with an advanced air discharge system. Through a highly efficient cooling system, fan noise is suppressed to a mere 20dB at lamp mode : low. With whisper-quiet fan noise, users can concentrate on a movie or game in a quiet environment without distraction. Fan noise level at lamp mode:high is 25dB
Two HDMI Inputs
The VPL-VW70 is configured with two HDMI digital input connectors, each capable of accepting a 1080p digital signal. This enables connection to 1080p output equipment such as Blu-ray Disc player.
24p True Cinema
Movies shot with a film camera have 24 frames per second. With the 24p True Cinema incorporated in the VPL-VW70, all 24 progressive images are displayed in the same sequence as the original film source. In combination with next-generation video devices like Blu-ray Disc, the same film-like motion normally seen only in a theatre is now available in the comfort of living room.
BRAVIA Sync
BRAVIA Sync simplifies and enhances the home theatre experience. Through the control capabilities of HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface), the devices sync with one another for intuitive operations such as One Touch Play and System Stand-by. The VPL-VW70 support the following applications as BRAVIA Sync. 1. One Touch Play -Insert a disc and press Play: the system turns on and the movie starts. 2. System Stand-by -Press the Power/Standby button on the projector remote: all connected A/V products shutdown at once. 3. Pass Through -Operate the BRAVIA Sync Compatible Equipment with the Remote Control of the projector 4. Simple BRAVIA Sync setup - The setup of the BRAVIA Sync works in conjunction with other BRAVIA Sync Compatible equipments.
Various Analog Inputs
The VPL-VW70 has various analog inputs such as Composite Video, S-Video, Component, and D-sub 15pin for PCs. Users can connect to all sorts of equipment.
RS-232C Capability and Two Trigger Out terminals
The VPL-VW70 has a RS-232C terminal. This let users remotely control the projector by connecting a personal computer or general control equipment via RS-232C terminal. And also, Two Trigger Out terminals, one for Power and the other for Anamorphic Zoom Mode are available for system expansion.
RCP (Real Color Processing) Function
The VPL-VW70 has an "RCP (Real Color Processing)" function to adjust color and hue of each target color of the projected picture independently. With this capability, users can tweak the images to perfection.
Panel Alignment Function
The VPL-VW70 is configured with a function that compensates gaps in character or color management. It is possible to select R(Red) or B(Blue) to make adjustments based on G(Green), and to adjust the horizontal and vertical direction by shifting full image or selecting points of each color.
Anamorphic Zoom Mode
The VPL-VW70 has a “Anamorphic zoom”mode in the wide modes to enjoy wider aspect ratio. With this mode, it is possible to create a full 2.35:1 image just like a movie theater when using commercially available anamorphic lens*.
Noise Reduction Function
The VPL-VW70 has “Noise Reduction” functions to reduce the roughness, or noise of the picture. In addition to traditional NR function, Mosquito Noise Reduction and Block Noise Reduction functions are newly available.
